In only a few short hours, the Glenroy Community Garden has begun to take shape!

Our first official working bee on November 22nd was rained out so instead we took our lunch and enthusiasm up to the Merri Community Health Services site in Glenroy and started chatting about how this garden may take shape.  There were 12 of us there that first rainy day and the group decided they would go back Saturday morning and get a start.  Within 3 hours, our group of 12 had converted a weed-filled space into the beginnings of a beautiful productive garden!

This initial core group has decided to meet at the garden weekly on Saturdays from 10am-12pm for the time being.  If you would like to see the space, find out what is going on or meet some of the other gardeners, drop in on a Saturday morning and say hello.  The garden is now accessible to community garden members at any time.  We have installed combination locks on the gate and shed.  To get access to the combination you will need to sign up as a community garden member.  This is free.

The garden is beginning to take shape and it is really exciting.  At the moment, the group are planting up the beds as communal beds.  Over the next few months, we hope to get more people involved and that group will decide how the garden will work.  At the moment we are just finding our feet so our membership process, rules etc may change over the coming months as the garden finds direction.  This is a great time to get involved!
